matt and i went to see andrew bird on thursday night at the majestic theater in detroit. the show was SO good! and martin dosh was awesome! i wish i was a better drummer. he was inspiring and intimidating.
anyway, cortney tidwell opened the show. i'd never heard of her until this show. she has a gorgeous voice and the music was dreamy and beautiful. she's so talented. her band was great too (the drummer was especially good). matt and i were listening to her and both of us were entranced. she had a familiar sound. her voice. it took me back and i couldn't figure out who she reminded me of. matt said edie brickell. and i could hear that a little bit. i also could hear a little bjork in her voice (matt agreed). it wasn't until she sang, "...white horses..." that it (sort of) came to me. i suddenly remembered a song from the early '90s. a song from an album i could not get enough of. on the way home from the show i told matt that she reminded me of the singer of a band i used to listen to oh so long ago. i couldn't sing the song so i just spoke the lyrics from "wild horses" (yes, i know it's a cover) and he knew i was talking about the sundays. yes! cortney sounds like harriet wheeler!
turns out matt and i both used to love the sundays. and i can't believe i haven't listened to them in so long. we came home and immediately turned on some of their music. i miss them... someone going by "hockeycoat" has uploaded a bunch of their videos on to youtube. i can't stop listening now. i also need to get some cortney tidwell.
ok, so, the other cool thing about the andrew bird tour is that they are traveling on a bus powered by biodiesel. and they were asking people to purchase refrigerator magnets to help pay for their fuel. posted by kristar 11:15 AM

i saw this a while ago when i was looking through my readymade magazine, but i didn't actually get to the website until recently. i just think it's a great idea....loan people money to help them out (even a small amount like $25) and they eventually pay you back. it'a a great way to help people - especially when you don't have a large disposable income. check out kiva.org to learn more. posted by kristar 8:00 PM

i am an auntie again! my sister had a baby girl today. her name is cady annabelle. she weighed 7lbs 14oz and is 20" long. this was a relatively quick labor for my sister. it took only a couple of hours versus the more than 24 hours with my nephew nathan.
cady is very cute. she has dark hair and my sister's ears. i can't wait to visit again tomorrow. posted by kristar 9:43 PM

Free music is always good. From the Kill Rock Stars label.
Turkey was awesome. The wedding was awesome. I can't wait to go back. Maybe I'll post some photos this weekend.
I'm an auntie! Nathan James was born the day I arrived in Turkey. I haven't seen him in person yet, but I plan to spend the entire coming weekend at his house.
I want to see Garden State. Where is it playing in Michigan???? I'll travel.
